Using translators
I would hope that people who use translators would also put the original text in to the post. Sometimes it's difficult to understand something and the original helps those who speak even a relative language of the original language.
Thank you!

Re: Using translators
Gracias, von.k,
yo solo hablo dos idiomas bien, italiano y español.
entiendo el portugues, el frances y el ingles dependiendo de quien escribe.
estoy de acuedo contigo que es dificil expresar concepto dificiles, sentimientos, estados de animo en tu idioma y luego confiar en un traductor automatico para que los demas te entiendan.
Todos somos perezosos, ademas, asi que muchos para no usar un traductor...simplemente no leen.
un saludo desde madrid.

Re: Using translators
it still would be great to send some translation as well, i'm reading the forum on the phone at the moment and it is difficult to copy the whole text and paste it in another browser window
Re: Using translators
Translation not needed. Basically the same as in the first post.
Yes, my idea was that we could have both versions. Of course sometimes also the others can use their time to translate the text. But the best way to get everyone to understand as well as possible, is to use 2 languages.

Re: Using translators
Gentlemen,
I am almost 50 years of age. I left school way back in 1978 and what I am saying in english language based from that time. I know, that my grammatics and and something more is not perfect, but I hope I am still able to point out my views in written form without a translator program. If I need a word, I can use a dictionary, so what´s the problem to write a statement without using a translator?
So, please, say it in broken english but not in your own language.

Re: Using translators
Thossa,
Ich kann deutsch schrieben. (original)
I can write german. (translator)
This is the idea. Both versions in the same post. To help prevent some more misunderstandings.

Re: Using translators
The worst of all is when official documents are sent in a version translated by a software. Most of the time it gives a very bad image as there are a lot of mistales and meaningless sentences (in particular in french letters).
Re: Using translators
The following quote is taken from the EGM discussion. But my comment is better here.
WARNING FROM THE ADMIN: International forum - Please write in English. Thanks!
Sorry Vincent, but I feel this is unnecessarily strong. Maybe it would be better just to inform that a translation has to be done by the writer, not the readers.
Of course it is better with only one language used, but so many controversies come from translating machinse, that it's better to see also the original. And if Piero anyway uses a translator, then nothing really changes. I do also understand the frustration of Piero, because he has to answer a lot of questions (more than many others) in a difficult language for him. And I feel that any communication is better than no communication.
I did propose a long time ago, that people who use a translator machine would also send the original here. That way there would be less misunderstandings, because everyone could check the meaning of original words.
If Piero write in spanish or italian, then translates it into english, and a reader translates that into his own language, there are so many changes that it's impossible to know what is the original message.

Re: Using translators
Yes but translators really suck anyway :-)
Even the GOOGLE one is far to be perfect...

Yes, that's why I never use them when I write myself.
But if there is no choice for someone, it's better to have the original to check the mistakes of the machine. And there are so many especially when translating languages that are not close to each other.

Re: Using translators
I agree with Thossa.
I use forum the last three years and i think that my english is better now.
Pierro maybe is more difficult in english for you but the meaning is worst from the translator.
Vesa congratulations for using so good so many languages but Vincent as admin decide english as official language so we must accept it.

Re: Using translators
FISTF has 2 official languages: french and english. Most french-speaking people accept english as a conventional language to use in table football. So it just makes more complicated if some people write in italian, some in spanish, some in greek,...
It's nothing personal.

Re: Using translators
My idea in short was that when you have to use the translator anyway (like Piero usually does), then add the original to the post.
Example of a post when using translator:
Come stai? (original)
How are you? (after translator)
There is nothing more to it, then reducing misunderstandings to a minimum.

Re: Using translators
If there is no original text, then it goes like this:
- spanish (for instance) is translated to english by googletranslator
- then I, who don't speak english as my motherlanguage, translate english to finnish in my head
If there is the original text, then it could go like this:
- spanish is translated directly to finnish by googletranslator
I'm not 100 % sure, but I think the latter case produces less mistakes.

Re: Using translators
maybe we can try it.
I for an example often have problems with the translations of Piero.
Generally I think the level of english in this forum is very good.
I think Vincent doesn't want that good english speaking people start posting their comments in their language additionally.

Yes, definitely no double languages when automatic translator is not used. This has to do with translator only.
Hönkki's example was basically what I meant.

Re: Using translators
From SN by SdF:
Even though I know people really are warned over many things nowadays with regard to TF, I thought this was a bit much.
So I looked what for example google translator offers for the italian verb "avvertire", which perhaps was used originally. The following list offers as first solution the verb "warn":
warn
feel
alert
inform
sense
caution
forewarn
apprise
apprize
The need for original text, when using translator, is very important so that people can verify if it sounds a bit strong. Unfortunately no one does this, or just trusts his own english too much. So many misunderstandings and so many negative sentences, if people are not "informed", but are always "warned"
I warned Rodriquez of this problem.
