I received today this letter from Africa and the sender even called me by the phone. The phonecall was short and I didn't understud much what he said, but obviously someone wants to come to Finland and learn to play TF. Have anyone else received this kind of a letter ?

I use to get a lot of these emails. It is a visa scam. What the person wants from you is an email or letter inviting them to Finland. With this they can apply for a visitor's visa & possibly ask you to help them pay for their airline tickets. They will enter Finland & never leave the EU.

I don't know what the law is in Finland, but in the USA, where I live, you become legally & financially responsible for them.

How I stopped the emails was by telling them that if they get their own visas, pay for their own tickets, & enter the USA without my assistance I would agree to see them.

If they are legit this will not be a problem for them.

I answered something like that. Thank's Simon.

By the way, were there some players from Nigeria in the WC 2006 ?

Never seen guys from Nigeria in Europe. I know there were some Nigerians playing. They even sent me some pictures a few years ago but I haven't heard from them for over one year.

I also get emails from Nigeria from people claiming to have played for the Nigerian U17 team in the U17 World Cup in midfield or as a striker (never defenders or goalkeepers) & they want to come play for the So Cal Subbuteo Club.

I use to reply to them that the So Cal Subbuteo Club is not a football/soccer club. But it has never stopped these emails from coming.

Ok. I remember there were some rumours that someone from africa wanted to come to WC, but obviously he never came.

Actually, a couple of years ago I met a nigerian student in Finland. He said that they play in Nigeria some tablefootball game which is a bit like subbuteo. The bases of the figures are made of caps of bottles and they flick them also. The basic idea sounded pretty much the same as in our game. I played with him one game subbuteo and he was one the best firsttimers I have ever met. Unfortunately I never heard of him after that.

Laughing Laughing

Kari, was the score 0-0 by any chance ? Cool

I have previously had emails from several African countries. It's exactly as Simon describes, a visa scam so they can prove they have been invited into an EU country.

We also had a few "players" in Togo. They were given material from Astrobase and they later sent some pictures of action play to FISTF. It was good fun to see their referee wisthling during the game :-)

No. Lucky me, he didn't know the direct freekicks are forbidden.

I fixed it so that from now on all the letters from Cameroon goes to Zinga. He is the new Chairman anyway.
