Re: Subbuteo Masters in England
wow that's great to hear, finally someone is starting to take the sport to the next level and professionalising it (so to speak), and surprise surprise, its not Mr Catania and his friends.
Nevertheless this is great news, big thumbs up to mr Bennett and everyone else involved in organising this tournament, it really is a great feat =)

oh and a big congratulations to mr Clark on winning the competition, I had the opportunity of chatting with him quite a bit in the Grand Prix of Malta in 2004 and he is a really top bloke... congrats Darren =)

Re: Subbuteo Masters in England
Yes, it was played last week-end. What I find unbelievable is that it was totally independant of both FISTF and ESTFA... it's good if there was a lot of promotion around it but I'm not really sure about it...
Re: Subbuteo Masters in England
Something about it also on the Bristol City home page.

It's a pity that it wasn't promoted in this site and so many people didn't know about it. Of course the main idea was to promote in the area.
This sort of professional tournaments are possible as we can see, and it could even be possible to get some tv coverage for them. But I feel that they have to be privately organized invitational tournaments for a small group of top players.
Great job!
(By the way, is this the same K. Bennett that I heard was not in Rain because he hasn't paid his 5 pound membership fee in England. Seems quite unbelievable, but it could be wrong info also.)

Yes, it's the same kaspar and I heard the same rumor. Unbelievable...
I guess all players were offered the plane ticket and pssibly a nigt over there so I don't even imagine how the money to organize it was found while FISTF struggles to find an organizer for the Masters...

Re: Subbuteo Masters in England
In the british forum (subbuteo players forum) there was info that some betting firms were sponsoring the event.

Not really. Bookies (Betting firm) were open adjacent to the pitches and taking bets
Odds on Darren were 33/1 before the event but reduced to 10/1 by the start.
It is not widely known who sponsored the event. I beleive there were several firms.

Ok, I understood wrong. I thought that Bennett had a deal with the bookies. But apparently this deal only had the firm present. And that's publicity as well.

Re: Subbuteo Masters in England
However, this tournaments is like a slap in the face of FISTF and the english association
Re: Subbuteo Masters in England
It is not surprising that Kaspar wanted to do it independently - he wanted to organise it PROFESSIONALLY without it turning into a farce. Great stuff!
